COVID-19 Vaccination Policy and Safety Protocols

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Urban Gateways has been closely following the guidance and recommendations set forth by the Centers for Disease Control, The Illinois Department of Public Health, and the city of Chicago. During the 2021-22 school year, we are also aligning our policies with those of Chicago Public Schools, other school district partners, and our colleagues in the arts sector. In accordance with our duty to prioritize the health and safety of our community, Urban Gateways is requiring all staff and artists be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Compliance to this policy requires that proof of full vaccination has been provided to Urban Gateways.

Mask Policy

We recognize that communications and guidelines are in a constant state of flux and are diligently following protocols and recommendations set by local ordinances. In accordance with the most recent requirements in the state of Illinois, Urban Gateways requires staff and artists participating in in-person programming to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status:

  • Indoors: Mask use indoors is required for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, including children. CDC recommends universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to schools, regardless of vaccination status.
  • Outdoors: In general, according to the CDC, fully vaccinated people do not need to wear masks when outdoors. However, particularly in areas of substantial to high transmission, people are encouraged to wear a mask in crowded outdoor settings or during activities that involve sustained close contact with other people who may not be fully vaccinated.
