Leah Damte is a Minnesota raised, Chicago based, sound artist and community curator. After leaving her home state in 2018, she attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she earned a Bachelors of Science in psychology. While stating to have always been a singer (her voice is her favorite instrument to utilize), Leah’s passions for the sonic arts blossomed during her college years and thereafter, when she became a perpetual student to DAW’s and turntables, and discovered the reciprocal joys of event curation.
Leah can be understood by her Ethiopian heritage, resolute curiosity, and riotous laugh. Self-proclaimed spokeswoman of humility, she enjoys cooking, traveling, and dancing, and is always looking for connections between the empirical, the felt, and lived experience. At Urban Gateways, she looks forward to yielding her education and artistic perpetrations by fostering accessible, sustainable, and joyful community partnerships.
