The schools above are deeply committed to in-depth arts programs for their students; what they don’t necessarily have is the funding to offer those programs.
We all know that the arts are personal. When I started elementary school, I was defined primarily by my enormous glasses; but I grew up, I was encouraged and challenged by the arts almost every day, and I attribute the person I am now to theater, music, and creative writing more than practically anything.
Maybe you had the same experience. In which case, you understand how troubling it is that so many students in our own city have never experienced these benefits of arts education.
In the name of the personal, we’re launching Adopt a School/Support a School – your opportunity to get involved by helping us provide arts education in a specific school, in a specific neighborhood.
