The Zombie Dance, caught on film
Where: Mays Academy, Englewood
Who: Fifth and sixth grade students
What: After-school dance residency with UG teaching artist Kim Schomburg
Suffice it to say, I am chuckling disruptively at my desk this morning.
1. The Zombie Dance, featuring Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. Students started by doing improv dance activities with Kim, learning some basic choreography concepts, and then using “Thriller” to create their own moves. Kim helped them turn it into a group number.
2. …Plus this gem. Kim only had four students on this particular day, so they choreographed a brand new number. (Note the joyful laughter in the background. I myself enjoyed the Matrix moment the best.)
