Safe Spaces at Street Level
Clubs & groups are an integral element of Street Level, our youth media arts center located at 1637 N Ashland Ave Ste 1 in Chicago. Not only do they allow young people to get together with peers who share their interests and hang out / mess around / geek out around those shared interests and lifestyles, but they build safe spaces that become central to young people’s personal and creative growth.
No need to take it from us; on November 7, Street Level hosted a Chicago Youth Voices Network member showcase where Street Level and other CYVN members screened their new media at our sound stage, giving attendees the chance to meet the next generation of civic leaders through their lens. The videos below were produced by Street Level youth for the CYVN Screening and discuss groups & clubs at Street Level: Anime Club, LGBTQ Club, K-Pop Universal Club, Music Group, and Mildsauce (Street Level’s youth-led online zine, which you can find right here).
Take a look and get to know Street Level’s young people and the many ways they are building safe spaces for themselves and their peers.
Keep an eye on Street Level’s YouTube channel for more videos!
Our thanks to Chicago Youth Voices Network for being an awesome partner.
